Descendants of George Willetts
Generation No. 1
1. GEORGE1 WILLETTS was born Abt. 1712 in Hayley
Green Lutley Halesowen Worcs. He married
MARY SILK
Notes for GEORGE WILLETTS:
I believe that George and Mary came from Hunnington Halesowen
originally. George's Gt Grandson
William born 1803 son of Richard, is living at Uffmoor Toll with his family in
1841. Uffmoor or Offmoor Toll is on the
boundary of Hayley Green, the address is Hunnington Romsley, Halesowen. The Halesowen Parish Register says 'Mary baptised 1758 daughter of George and
Mary Willetts of Hunnington, although George and Mary's other children are
described as being from Hasbury and Lutley.
'I think the family must have been in the Uffmoor Wood and or Hayley
Green area for generations. These places
together with Lutley are all very close to each other. I would presume that the Vicar or Vicar's did
not know exactly where each family lived?
The first entry for Willetts at Hunnington in the
Notes for MARY SILK:
I believe that Mary's family were from Romsley Hunnington Halesowen,
only found three Silk entries so far in the Parish Records, one for Mary's
marriage to George Willetts and one for an Ann Silk from Romsley buried at
Halesowen 5.6.1740, could be Mary's mother?
Worcs Quarter Sessions 1786 name a Thomas Silk, Farmer of

7. WILLIAM3 WILLETTS (GEORGE2, GEORGE1) was born Abt. 1792
in Hayley Green Lutley Halesowen Worcs., and died
Notes for WILLIAM WILLETTS:
William's first wife Phoebe died in Hayley Green Lutley 1835, so presumably
the family lived there before they moved to Wall Well Hasbury on the 1841
Census. William and Phoebe's Children's
Baptism's were recorded as living at Lutley, Mary, Benjamin and Elizabeth were
Hayley Green. The Baptism's for William
and Maria's children recorded the family as livinig in Hasbury. William was married twice and had 13
children. His daughter Elizabeth, my Gt
Gt Grandmother says that her father was a Forgeman on her Marriage Entry. Sadly by 1871, just before he died, he was
living on his own on the Stourbridge Road Halesowen, working as a Labourer in
the road, I would imagine this would have been by Short Cross Toll House. How sad that after having two wives and 13
children he ended up by himself. I do
believe from his death certificate that he ended his days at the home of his
son Benjamin. He died on 3rd. June 1872
aged 79 from Paralysis, Spring Hill Hasbury Halesowen. Benjamin was named on the certificate as
being 'present at death.'

Notes for MARY ANN WILLETTS:
Witnesses to Mary Ann's marriage were her husbands sister Selina and her
husband Samuel Newby. I was most excited
to find that Mary Ann lived her married life in Hawne where I grew up, and that
Aaron's family lived in the Old Toll House, Hawne Lane, which I have a picture of, it is no longer there, a Doctor's
Surgery has replaced it. By 1901 Mary
Ann had died, living a few doors away from Aaron is Sarah Holloway nee
Willetts, elder step sister of Mary Ann.
Sarah is living with her daugher Jane, and her husband William
Southwell, I wonder if the two sisters managed to see each other in Bloomfield

Worcs.
Notes for GEORGE WILLETTS:
Witnesses to George and Ann's Wedding were a Thomas and Susan (Best or
West??) For some reason George and Ann
both gave their place of residence on their marriage entry as Lye Waste,
presumably this was so they could marry in Old Swinford? In 1881 George and wife Ann are living with

On Ann and George's Marriage Entry for Old Swinford, Ann says her father
is Joseph Bloxon or Bloxham a Surgeon, there was a Joseph Bloxham a Local Surgeon
in Halesowen born about 1792, which would just make him old enough to be Ann's
father. Joseph had Servants in his
Household. I suppose that Ann's mother
Elizabeth could have been a Servant for the family? Liaisons between Professional Gentlemen and
Servant Girls is legendary! Both George
and Ann gave their residence's as Lye Waste on their Marriage Entry? Witnesses were Thomas and Susan West or Neat?

24. ELIZABETH4 WILLETTS (WILLIAM3, GEORGE2, GEORGE1) was born April 7,
1833 in Hayley Green Lutley Halesowen Worcs, and died April 2, 1925 in Conisbrough
Doncaster Yorks. She married (1) ARTHUR WHITE HACKETT July 23, 1854 in St Thomas Dudley Worcs, son of CHARLES WHITE and HARRIETT WHITE. He was born Abt. 1833 in Halesowen Worcs, and
died January 5, 1859 in Halesowen Worcs.
She met (2) JOSEPH FOSTER Abt. 1861. He was born Abt. 1832 in Dudley Port
Staffs. She married (3) HENRY LEEDHAM April 22, 1866 in Parish Church Netherton
Worcs, son of PHOEBE LEEDHAM. He was born Abt. 1841 in Bagworth Leicester,
and died Bef. 1901.
Notes for ELIZABETH WILLETTS:
Elizabeth out of all my Great Grandparents seemed to have had the most
eventful life. She suffered a great deal
of pain, she was only 2 when her mother Phoebe died, and then between 1856/9
she lost three children and her husband Arthur.
She was left to fend for herself and daughter Pamela. By 1862 she had another daughter Frances
Edith Foster, and then in 1866 she married again to Henry Leedham. Witnesses at that Wedding were Joseph Cooksey
and Hannah Winwood. I cannot find
Elizabeth in 1871, however her husband Henry Leedham is a Lodger in Overend
Cradley, I think Elizabeth must have been there too, just missed off the Census
return. Elizabeth's elder daughter Pamela Hackett, my Great Grandmother is on
the 1871 Census living with her Grandfather Thomas Hackett and her Aunt Ellen
Hackett who is now Ellen Shilvock, in Hasbury Halesowen. Perhaps the reason why Pamela was there and
not living with her mother was the fact that they were in Lodgings, and there
simply wasn't room for all of them. In
1881 Elizabeth had moved to Rowley Regis with Henry, also living with them were
her two daughters Pamela and Frances. By
1891 she was living in Conisbrough West Riding of Yorkshire with daughter
Frances and her family, Elizabeth still says she is married, although there is
no sign of Henry. In 1901 she is living
on her 'own account' still with daughter Frances, Elizabeth is now a
Widow. It looks as though she didn't
live with Henry once she moved away from Rowley Regis.

Notes for ARTHUR WHITE HACKETT:
Arthur and Elizabeth lived in Halesowen.
Witnesses at their Wedding were Salvey Hall (I think Salvey was a member
of Staff from Halesowen Workhouse) and Rosehannah Fornill or Turnill., Arthur
and Elizabeth both signed their names.
Arthur died in Hagley St. Halesowen on 5th. January 1859 aged 26 from
Jaundice and Abscess of the Liver.
Present at death was Ann Willetts, I believe her to be Ann nee Siviter
wife of George, brother of Elizabeth, George and Ann lived in Bromsgrove Street
Halesowen.

Notes for JOSEPH FOSTER:
I think this Joseph is Frances's Edith Marsh's father. In 1861 he was a Widower with three children
Elizabeth 7, Joseph 5, and David 4. He
is the only Joseph Foster of the right age in Halesowen at this time.
More About JOSEPH FOSTER:

Notes for HENRY LEEDHAM:
In 1851 Henry is living with his Grandparents Stephen and Sarah Leedham
& family in Polesworth Warks. In
1861 they are all living at Furnace Hill Halesowen. Stephen Leedham is aged 61 and is an Engine
Driver from Polesworth Warks. Sarah is
from Leicestershire. In 1871 Henry is a
Lodger in Cradley now married to Elizabeth, however Elizabeth my Gt Gt
Grandmother is not listed as being in the household, I can find no other trace
of her, Henry says he is married, so I think it is a case of Elizabeth just
being missed from the Census return.
Henry and Elizabeth together with Pamela and Francis are together in
1881 in Waterfall Lane Rowley Regis Staffs.
After this date, Pamela married Benjamin and Francis marries Joseph
Marsh. By 1901 Elizabeth is living with
Francis and Joseph in Conisbrough West Riding of Yorkshire, and Henry is a
Boarder in Engine Lane Lye with a Mary Ann Butler aged 58 Married born in Lye
Worcs.

March 1, 1930, 49 St Andrews Street Netherton Worcs.
Notes for PAMELA AMELIA HACKETT:
In 1871 Pamela is living in Brick Kiln Street with her Aunt Ellen
Shilvock nee White/Hackett, Ellen's children and her Grandfather Thomas
Hackett. Her mother Elizabeth is not on
the 1871 Census, but her second husband Henry Leedham is a Lodger at Cradley, I
think that Elizabeth is there too, just been missed from the Census return. Perhaps there was not enough room for Pamela
in the Lodging House this is why she is not living with her mother and step
father. However the family are all
together on the 1881 Census living in Waterfall Lane Rowley Regis. One of Pamela's neighbours was Pamela's
future husband Benjamin Haynes, this is where they must have met, they probably
attended the same Chapel. The Witnesses
at Pamela's Wedding were, Thomas Haynes and Frances Edith Marsh. Thomas was Benjamin's brother, Frances was
Pamela's half sister. Pamela never knew
her Father as he sadly died before she was born. Living next door to Pamela, Benjamin and
family in 1891 were a John Baker aged 38
a Coalminer from Kingswinford, his wife is Emma aged 38 born RR; children
Martha 13, Phoebe 8, John 5, Annie 2, all born RR. I think there could be a connection with Mary
Ann Baker, Benjamin's mother. Pamela
lived out her life looking after her husband and children. After living in Old Hill, they lived in
Talbot Street Cradley for awhile, and then moved to Netherton Worcs. The moves were probably down to where
Benjamin was employed at the time.
After Benjamin's death in 1930, Pamela was looked after by her daughter
Ethel. Pamela's eye sight was not good.
My mom said she didn't know how Ethel coped as she had to do everything
for her mother. In 2005 I was contaced by Rosemary Grove, Gt
Granddaughter of Pamela's half sister Frances, she told me that the two sisters
were close and that Pamela was a frequent Visitor to Consibrough where
Elizabeth, Pamela's mother and Frances lived.

Notes for BENJAMIN HAYNES:
Obituary for Benjamin: The sudden
death of Mr Benjamin Haynes of 49, St Andrews St. Netherton, on the 1st inst.,
in his 73rd year, recalls a life of which was not without interest. He was born in New Town Brockmoor and
commenced work at Brettle's Pit Old Hill, at the early age of seven, and he
continued to interest himself in the mining industry until his death, a matter
of 63 years, during which period he was fortunate enough to escape serious
injury. His first duties consisted of
door-minder, and as the years rolled on he passed through the various stages of
horse-driver, loader, hewer, stallman etc., until eventually he obtained his
fireman's certificate. He was always
anxious to improve his position, and at this stage of his career, he was fired
with the ambition to obtain his "Second Class Certificate of
Competency," and to one who was self educated this was no small task, for
years he studied hard and plodded on with this object in view. His first attempt was at Birmingham
University, but unfortunately, was unsuccessful. He was undaunted, however, and although he
could ill afford the necessary fees and incidental expenses, he sat again later
on at the Cardiff Centre with success.
This was June 1912. Although he
was now a fully qualified 2nd class Under Ground-Manager, it was sometime
before he could obtain such a post.
Eventually he was employed under Mr Newey at two of Messrs N. Hingley
& Sons Collieries, where he stayed a few years. Still anxious to widen his field of
experience, he joined the Colliery Staff of the Earl of Dudley under Mr S
Dimmock, and he was responsible for several Pits in the Himley district. In time he was invited by his old employers,
Messrs Mobberley and Perry, to undertake the responsibility of working the
Oldnall Colliery, where he spent a strenuous and successful 11 years, making
approximately 22 years service under this particular firm. In addition to his mining activities he was a
Wesleyan Local Preacher for about 46 years and occupied the position of Society
Steward for a matter of 22 years. The
funeral took place on the 5th March 1930.
A short but impressive service was held in the local Wesleyan Chapel,
conducted by the Supt. Minister (the Rev Dawson), assisted by his two
colleagues and Pastor J. Griffin, of Dixon's Green Congregational Church, who
rendered worthy tribute to their late co-worker, Mr Brookes, the organist,
rendered suitable music feelingly. The
interment took place at Rowley Churchyard and the last rites being performed by
the Rev H. Dawson. The mourners were the
Messrs Edgar and Howard (sons); Bernard
(son in law); John, James and Daniel
(brothers); J. Siviter (brother in
law); Mr Pearson (representing Messrs
Mobberley and Perry); and Mr J.H.
Griffiths, J.P. The Bearers were Messrs
Harold and Joseph (nephews), and I. Grainger, F. Jennings, B. Winchurch and S.
Tilley. There were many floral
tributes.
Benjamin and family lived in Halesowen Road Old Hill until about 1910
when they moved to Talbot Street Cradley. There the family attended the Wesleyan
Methodist Church. Benjamin had been a
Local Preacher there since 1884. His son
Frederic had became interested in the Ministry and later became a Methodist
Minister himself out in Victoria Australia.
Mom told me that she remembered Benjamin as a very kind and loving
man. She remembered him playing a small
organ and how he used to wear a smoking cap, he probably had a clay pipe which
was fashionable at the time. Around 1920
Benjamin, Pamela, Ethel and Howard moved to Netherton, where with the exception
of Howard, remained for the rest of their lives.

Notes for FRANCES EDITH FOSTER:
Frances was born in Cemetery Lane Halesowen Worcs. I would imagine it was the home of Elizabeth
who was now a Widow, or the home of a relative.
In 1871 Frances is Visiting a family in Rowley Village Staffs, a John
Hinton born Northfield 1820, a Blacksmith, and his wife Mary born Halesowen
1822, they have 4 children, Charles Robinson, Hannah, William and Pamela. I have no idea who they are, perhaps one of
the girls was a friend of Frances's.
Witnesses at Frances's Wedding were Ralph Marsh and her half sister
Pamela Amelia Hackett. At the time of
her marriage, Frances gave her address as Halesowen Road Old Hill Staffs. By 1891 Frances and her family are living in
Doncaster Yorkshire, Elizabeth, Frances's mother is also with them, there is no

living with them were Jane G Cole sister unmarried aged 17 from Dudley. Thomas Tolley nephew aged 12 Brockmore, and a

Notes for ELIZABETH JANE
GRAINGER COLE:
In 1861 Elizabeth and her sister Mary Ann are living with their father's
sister Sarah Brooks and Sarah's husband Philip who is a Draper in the High Street
Stourbridge. It seems for some reason
that Joseph and Ann Cole farmed all their children out around this time. Jospeh was blind by 1871, perhaps this was
the reason why the children were all living with relations?
