House
on Lapal Tunnel
The
Photo below, submitted by Jim Tether, was taken just before World War Two and
shows a house which was on the left just above Lapal Tunnel.
Jim
Tether writes :-
'' I
believe that the lady looking at the swans was Mrs. Westwood who lived in the
house. Her son Robert later became a local Lay Preacher.
The large building
to the right are the stables for the horses which pulled the canal barges, the
small building to the left is the "brewhouse"
Her water supply
was over the other the other side of the canal alongside the towpath
behind a small wooden door
There was a pump
house nearby to reverse the flow of water to make "legging" easier
through the tunnel''
